A ‘belated’ Charlie Brown Christmas

Ok, I’m a little late with this one but I only got the Peanuts 60’s collection on DVD for Xmas so let me off please…

‘A Charlie Brown Christmas’ is an absolute delight. I adore the simplicity of the animation which sees Charlie fighting consumerism to show the real meaning of Christmas.

The voice cast of children are brilliant and an inspired decision of the time. Then we have the wonderful music of Vince Guaraldi, wonderful Jazz pieces which in a way shouldn’t work but do and will stand the test of time.

The moment when Linus takes centre stage and recites the passage from the annunciation of the shepherds and finishes with; “…That’s what Christmas is all about, Charlie Brown. ” is absolutely beautiful.

I do find it brilliant that a show sponsored by Coca-cola at the time delivers a heart-warming win against the commercialisation of the Christmas season; is that the Coca-cola truck I hear crawling by with a puncture?!

Well played Charlie Brown.
